Families
Family participation is an important aspect of making the service a true part of the community. We believe in creating an environment that is welcoming and inclusive and supports a sense of belonging for children, families, and educators.
Family involvement is encouraged through afternoon tea invitations throughout the year for parents, grandparents and loved ones. This is a time for the child to show their families around their environment and enjoy delicious treats together.
Our annual winter walk which was started in 2015 is a time for families to join us when the sun goes down. We walk to the park with lanterns and flames flickering in the cool breeze. On our return we all enjoy warm hearty soups, sandwiches and treats provided by our families and educators. The highlight of the night is roasting marshmallows around the fire as we listen to indigenous stories.
At WECC we use OWNA to keep families in touch with their child’s day and our documentation through an app on their phone. We provide up-to-date information about their child’s mealtimes, nappy changes, rest times and learning stories throughout the day which accessible to parents as it occurs.
